Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month – April 2024
Every April, we celebrate Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month (LLLDAM), a time dedicated to raising awareness about the challenges faced by amputees and individuals with limb differences. At Adapttech, we are committed to supporting this cause and providing innovative solutions to enhance the lives of those affected.
Exploring Motio Functional Report Metrics – Blind Outcome Evaluations
Building upon one of our previous blog posts, the Motio Functional Report contains distinct sections, including daily activity highlights, an overall activity summary, blind outcome evaluations, and detailed activity graphs.
We presented before the importance of the Daily Steps and how to understand the Daily Activity Highlights. Today, let’s take a look at the Blind Outcome Evaluations section.

Pioneering a New Era in Prosthetic Care: Motio System is Now Available to Order
Motio Functional Reports offer us an unprecedented real-world assessment, providing clinicians, prosthetists, prosthetic users, and insurance specialists with comprehensive insights into our patients’ daily activities and potential. By seamlessly integrating wearable devices designed for a minimum wear period of 7 days, the rehabilitation team can now make more informed decisions, tailor prosthetic rehabilitation plans, and enhance overall patient care.
How can the Motio StepWatch™ System help improve lower limb prosthetic user care and relationships?
The evolution and variety of prosthetic components make prosthetic prescription, fitting, and adjustment complex. While this complexity underscores the pressing need for evidence-based guidelines and benchmarks to evaluate prosthetic components and patient functional potential, it also brings to light the challenge of supporting diverse perspectives within a multidisciplinary team. Not all members think in the same way, and although diversity in experience levels and academic backgrounds is key to creating this team’s value, it can delay the decision-making process and impact patient care.
AOPA National Assembly 2023 Recap
The AOPA (American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association) National Assembly 2023 in Indianapolis was an incredible gathering of professionals, experts, and enthusiasts in the orthotics and prosthetics industry. We want to take a moment to express our gratitude to everyone who visited our booth, attended our presentations, and made this event special.
Exploring Motio Functional Report Metrics - Daily Steps
During the long-term acquisition, the Motio StepWatch™ system gathers step-related information and integrates it with in-clinic patient outcome results to create a deeper understanding of each prosthetic user's mobility potential. The different metrics and visuals that are presented on the Motio Functional Report allow the clinician to comprehend what the prosthetic users are usually accomplishing in their daily lives. Then, they can use this information as a benchmark when evaluating their potential and deciding which K-level recommendation would be more appropriate to each case, before getting the Motio Functional Level. The Motio Functional Level, suggested by the Motio StepWatch, will then take into account the clinician's decision, along with the remaining report context.
Motio StepWatch™ Beta Tests started: Be Part of Revolutionary Rehabilitation Technology
We are thrilled to announce the beginning of beta tests with Motio StepWatch in Portugal, marking a significant milestone in revolutionizing rehabilitation technology with lower limb prosthetic users!
Exploring the Motio Report: A Quick Guide to Understanding its Insights
Patients with lower limb prostheses face unique challenges in their rehabilitation journey. The steps taken to evaluate a prosthetic user’s functional level vary between practitioners. Most frequently, it combines the patient's information with the clinician's own in-office evaluation, both of which can be fairly subjective. To assess their progress and determine the effectiveness of interventions, outcome measures are essential tools used by clinicians. These measures provide valuable data that guide treatment decisions, enhance communication among healthcare providers, and improve patient outcomes, but most of them only really represent how a patient acts within the walls of an O&P Clinic or Rehabilitation Center.
Activity Monitoring in Prosthetic Users: Psychometric Properties of Motio StepWatch™
Self-reported activities of lower limb prosthetic users and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) have limited reliability and objectiveness, which has led to an increasing interest in accurate real-world activity monitoring. For prosthetic users, monitoring activity levels can be important for several reasons, including evaluating the effectiveness of their prosthetic device, assessing progress during rehabilitation, and promoting physical activity for overall health and well-being [1–3].
Introducing UI Testing: Our Process and Tips
Adapttech takes a multidisciplinary approach to product development, involving a diverse group of skilled professionals committed to transparency in their design process. In a previous post titled "Design Control Process," we outlined our approach to creating user-friendly products.
Design shaping the future of technology
It is time to appreciate the value of design and its capacity to effect change in the world. Design is not just about making things look good, it is also about making things work better, solving problems, and improving the quality of life for people around the world.
Adapttech presents the "ADAPT – the new generation of smart fitting prosthetic solutions" project
On the 6th of December, Adapttech presented the results of the project “ADAPT – The new generation of Smart Fitting Prosthetic Solutions” at Porto Palácio Congress Hotel & Spa, in Porto, Portugal. This project looked at the INSIGHT range of products of Adapttech: the INSIGHT Digitizer, INSIGHT Sense, and INSIGHT Pro.
Adapttech's new product portfolio
The development team has worked over the last few months to revamp the traditional INSIGHT System, adding new features to all its components. These changes have led to the creation of two distinct standalone products which can also be bought together in a professional package where the user will benefit from all its functionalities.
The Design Control Process
Trying to make a design and development process with several teams in different fields can be quite burdensome if they don’t know where they should meet in the process and what they should deliver in order to get a product that meets everyone’s expectations, especially the user ones.
Its More Than the Technology - Med Tech Gurus Podcast
Starting 2022 with great news, we are very happy to share with you that you can now listen to the episode of the Med Tech Gurus Podcast, in which our CEO Frederico Carpinteiro was interviewed by host Thomas Hickey.
IOT EDGE – The Internet of Things on Azure
Azure IoT Edge is an Internet of Things (IoT) service that builds on top of IoT Hub and enables users to carry out edge computing. This means that the data is analyzed on the devices rather than in the cloud itself. With Edge computing, you can avoid transferring raw data by carrying out data cleaning, aggregation, and analysis on the device itself, and then send the insights gained to the cloud.
Right tool for the right job
During the academic period, in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering, there are several software that we have contact with, some of them outdated or even obsolete, but it is with them that we learn to work and apply the knowledge that was/is passed on. Also, there are several subjects taught, which is difficult to acquire the necessary knowledge for when we embrace a professional challenge.
Transportation of products to the USA
Shipping products to the United States was, in the beginning, a big challenge for Adapttech. It's a different reality that we weren't used to: new rules, bureaucracies to receive the products, and the need to always have a broker – a person responsible for the package, who needs to be informed to deal with the US customs and provide all the documents required on time.
How the search for a modbus TCP/IP motor controller led to a revolution in the design of our next-generation scanner
When I joined the company in September of 2019, our first scanner, from now on G1, was already certified and with all the heavy lifting on development was already done. Some of the choices were made having in consideration the time constraints to have the scanner certified and those decisions led to use what was available rather than what we could find that better suited our needs.
